Grays Peak Strategies Logo: GPS Communication

GPS Communication provides strategy and content development to help programs meet people where they are, including a broad-based application of behavioral economics in designing printed materials (forms, letters, handbooks, guides, etc.) and digital outreach.

The greatest challenge for any organization is establishing and maintaining a comprehensive and effective communication strategy. Understandably, many human services agencies find it difficult to develop and execute that kind of strategy while also carrying out their primary work of direct public service. That’s why you need a partner who not only understands your specific goals but also your environmentWhen we combine the unique challenges of human services delivery and providing services to the public, you need a partner that not only understands your specific goals but also understands your environment.

A well-defined approach both builds ongoing relationships within the community and provides a collective benefit to everyone. Outreach and community engagement are critical components of any human services or public-facing program.  Having a well-defined approach can build ongoing relationships within the community that will provide a collective benefit to everyone.

Our approach to a holistic outreach and community engagement plan includes:

Coordination with external partners (courts, hospitals, other agencies)

Stakeholder mapping

Public awareness campaigns

Partner engagement

Employer compliance and follow-up

Social media approach

Initiatives to increase positive caseload trends

As everything around us changes, becomes automated, and moves faster – there is a growing need to make sure communication strategies with community partners, parents, and stakeholders remains relevant and effective. Does your program have a detailed plan for its community outreach and community engagement?  If not, we are here to help. We can help you look at the mechanisms for communication as well as utilizing research in behavioral science to make sure the message itself is appropriate and effective.  Not all cases are the same – and communication needs to meet people where they are and where they can be receptive.  Let us work with you to review your approach, and come up with an outreach and community engagement strategy that works.

SEO and Digital Outreach Services

Creating and maintaining an effective online presence requires careful planning and skilled execution. The following is an overview of the process as applied to a Child Support agency.

A Recent Digital Marketing Success Story

We have been fortunate to work with the Virginia Department of Social Services to support their Digital Marketing grant. In Virginia we supported every part of the process on the Grant. We managed the project through several changes of project leadership within the program. We developed the communications and evaluation plans and handled all of the federal reporting and evaluation. And we conducted an SEO analysis of their website and then used that--and our experience with behavioral economics--to create hundreds of ads (not exaggerating!) and dozens of animated videos. We even helped them establish their social media accounts and brought them together with other programs so they could get a sense of the best practices out there. The links below provide additional detail and outcomes from this project.

GPS Form Factory

GPS Form Factory shares GPS’s small size, its big heart, and its quietly relentless dedication to supporting great outcomes for communities across the country.

We draw on our work across more than fifteen states and over more than five decades of combined experience to develop forms that people can really read and understand. We do that in part through employing proven principles from behavioral economics to improve engagement and reduce the errors that take up staff time and slow down critical business processes.

As former government leaders, we know how to develop forms that meet the need for legal precision. We understand the tradeoffs of policy and the limitations imposed by older technology and tight budgets.

But we’re also people and as people we face the same kinds of cognitive biases as the clients and customers we have tried to help over all these years. We need to be told directly what’s expected of us. We need forms to use familiar language, and when they don’t, we need that language explained directly. Sometimes we might even need to have key points repeated. (A little reminder now and then can be nice too.)

At Form Factory we can help you develop new forms that use the ideas of behavioral economics to improve engagement and hopefully reduce the amount of time spent correcting errors.

We can also work with your existing forms to reshape them in a way that aligns with your processes and policies—while giving them the added boost of behavioral insight.

So we created GPS Form Factory as a way for governments at all levels to enjoy the benefits of human-centered design.
