ABOUT US

A’Sutapi is a summer camp for Blackfeet Youth (11-14) with young counselors (16-17) who are returning campers, and counselors (18+)

This five-day overnight summer camp aims to build a good future for Blackfeet youth by strengthening their connections to Blackfeet culture and providing opportunities to explore healthy activities. Campers participate in traditional summer camp activities like swimming, kayaking, hiking, archery, and challenge course, as well as specially-offered activities centered around Blackfeet life and culture.

They learn Blackfeet language, traditional games, resource management including hunting and harvesting, and drumming and dancing.

By strengthening campers’ cultural identity and providing exposure to healthy activities, Blackfeet youth will be able to envision Iiksook’ksooksik - a good future for themselves!

Not only are campers enriched by this opportunity, but we hire former campers as youth counselors and we hope to have former youth campers serve as counselors in the future. In this way, we are deepening their cultural knowledge as well as giving a pipeline of valuable employment experience to a community with high unemployment rates.

OUR SERVICE

The camp was funded by a grant from the U.S. Health and Human Services Office of Child Support Services that ends June 2026. We hope to continue to offer this valuable opportunity for Blackfeet youth every summer.
